We would like to thank all the people who showed up to help with food baskets today. We know it is a very busy time of the year for everyone. The community support is absolutely unbelievable. It takes many hands to make this event happen.
I am always amazed how quickly we can get over 700 baskets packed and on the way to be delivered. I will never forget the first time I delivered a route. We had just expanded the area we deliver to, so this particular senior had never received a basket from us before. The senior was in disbelief that it was for her, or that she did not have to pay for it. She could not understand why we would think of her and gift her such a large bag of groceries. She was in tears. My heart was full. When the hours get long and I wonder why I got involved in this organization I am reminded of this day. It wasn’t just this one person, it was over half of them. I don’t think I ever experienced so much gratitude in one day.
It’s crazy how just a couple of hours can make such a huge impact on people. Just 2 hours of your time can impact over 700 households. That’s a smile that may have been missing for awhile because of many different reasons. Can we all make the effort to visit someone who maybe experienced a loss this year for just an hour? Can we maybe consider donating an hour of our time to an organization in the next year? One thing is for sure organizations are dying because volunteering is not the norm anymore. Don’t be afraid to get your children involved either. There is not a single time I regret taking my children with me to help when I was volunteering. They may not have liked it at the time but I know they are better humans because of it.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas, and hope you have a happy and healthy 2025!
